There is a lot of buzz surrounding the press release we made today. It talks about how SwitchGames is creating a pipeline into the used game market by allowing members to donate a percentage their game sales to the people that made the game. To be clear:
1. THIS WILL BE 100% OPTIONAL
2. SWITCHGAMES MAKES $0 FROM PAYING PUBLISHERS / DEVELOPERS
As with everything else we are doing with SwitchGames, this feature is to EMPOWER members to take control of the secondary game market. If you want to pay a publisher, the mechanism is there to do that. If you don't think publishers deserve anything, then publishers don't get anything.
While reading today's posts and comments about our press release, it seemed to illuminate some fundamental misunderstandings of what SwitchGames stands for. Yes... most online options for used games are either the same hustle as GameStop or ineffective trading sites that are confusing, cost money, and tell you what your game is worth. SwitchGames is an infrastructure and a platform created to allow gamers to gain complete control over their used game values and transactions. You can use SwitchGames for $0. We are not a "bait & switch" operation and we take pride in being completely transparent and fair. We make our money through OPTIONAL services that make transacting on SwitchGames safer, easier, and faster.
Stores and websites should not be dictating what our games are worth. We live in a capitalistic and free society where the market should determine values, not corporations. GameStop generates billions of dollars annually because we let them tell us a used game is worth $17 when WE sell it, but somehow that same used game is worth $55 when THEY sell it.
Made by gamers for gamers, SwitchGames always offers 100% free trading of games. On SwitchGames, MEMBERS decide the value of what they own. Whether trading, buying or selling, SwitchGames offers a social marketplace and toolset that empowers you to gain control of the used game market.
